Letterpress title page, frontispiece and 83 plates. A variety of sporting plates, some in colour, largely engraved. There are some portraits of prize horses, hunting dogs, with their owners or prey, fish, fishing and shooting scenes, and two recognisable landscapes - one Welsh view from Glamorgan to Wit in Wales, another of the 1865 boat race, where Oxford won. We suspect this was a collection of plates put together by an enterprising bookseller for a customer, with an added letterpress title page. OCLC (#702363277) has one other record with the same title held at Yale University. Bound in a recent half speckled calf with morocco title label, gilt lettering and gilt tooled devices to spine. Occasional light foxing or offsetting. With original leather spine with animals tooled in gilt inserted in the rear. Binding 24.7 cm tall. Title: Illustrations of British Sports and Pastimes.
